Kenya Mobile Loan Borrowers Survey – Terms and Conditions

60 Decibels, an impact measurement company, is running a survey in May 2024 to gather information on taking out loans via a mobile phone in Kenya.

We aim to survey a total of 2,000 customers from the top mobile loan providers and are offering up to 250 KES in airtime for each eligible individual who completes the survey.

In order to assess your eligibility to take part in the survey, please first complete the short application form. A random selection of those who are eligible will be contacted by 60 Decibels via email, Whatsapp, SMS or phone to take part in the survey.

Kenya Mobile Loan Borrowers Survey – Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility: This offer is open to residents of Kenya aged 18 years and over, who have taken out a loan via their mobile phone in the last two years. The offer is not available to employees of 60 Decibels, their immediate families, and anyone else connected with the creation or administration of this promotion.

2. Offer Period: The offer will run until 31/05/2024 or until the survey is completed by 2000 mobile loan customers. Applications to take part in the survey received after this date will not be eligible.

3. Entry Requirements: In order to take part in the survey, participants must first complete an application form and meet the eligibility criteria. Survey participants will then be drawn at random from those who meet the eligibility criteria and be invited on WhatsApp, SMS or phone call to complete the survey by 60 Decibels, no later than 1 week after they submit their application. The survey is split in two parts: part 1 must be completed and verified before being invited to complete part 2. Verification includes checking that all questions have been completed and answered genuinely.

Only completed and authentic surveys (not the initial application form) will be eligible to receive up to 250 KES in airtime.

4. The Offer: Participants who are deemed eligible and successfully complete the survey will receive airtime credit of up to 250 Kenyan Shillings (KES) within 5 working days following the completion of the survey. The amount of airtime rewarded will be determined by whether the participant completes one or both parts of the survey – 100 KES for completion of part 1, a further 150 KES for completion of part 2.

5. How to Claim the Reward: Rewards will be credited directly to the mobile number provided during the survey, within 5 working days of completing the survey. Participants must ensure that the provided mobile number is accurate and valid.

6. Unclaimed Rewards: If a participant fails to claim their reward within 10 working days of the reward being issued, the reward will be forfeited.

7. Exclusions: Rewards are non-transferable and may not be exchanged for cash or other goods or services.

8. Disqualification: 60 Decibels reserves the right to disqualify any participant who is found to be in violation of these terms and conditions.

9. Data Protection: Personal information provided by participants will be used solely for the purpose of administering the survey and will not be shared with third parties without explicit consent. Please see more info on data usage below.

10. Changes to the Promotion: 60 Decibels reserves the right to alter, amend, or cancel this offer in whole or in part, without prior notice.

11. Governing Law: These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Kenya and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya.

Understanding How The Data and Learnings Will be Used By 60 Decibels

Types of Data That We Will Collect: We will only collect certain data on your mobile loan usage and experience with the provider (“Personal Information”) as part of our survey. Under no circumstances, will we be collecting from you as part of this survey or future ones, any information relating to your passwords, bank accounts or payment.

Purpose: We will be using your Personal Information solely for market research, to help companies and organizations that create and provide mobile loan services to better understand how to improve their products and services, by sharing your experiences and feedback with them.

Voluntary Nature and Your Right to Withdraw: Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary. If you do not want to answer a question, you can refuse to answer or withdraw from the survey at any time. Your decision to decline to answer or to withdraw will not lead to penalty or loss of any existing benefits from the company but you will not be entitled to receive the incentive for completing this survey. There are no anticipated risks from study participation.

Compensation for Participation: If you are identified as eligible and selected to participate via our random draw, we will reach out to you for a survey. Upon successful completion of the survey, you will receive mobile phone airtime of 100 KES. If you are asked to complete the follow-up survey, upon successful completion you will receive a further mobile phone airtime of 150 KES.

Confidentiality: We will strive to always keep your responses to this survey confidential. Your responses will be combined with answers from other respondents participating in this survey and we will never identify you personally as a participant in this survey. The answers you provide will only be accessible to members of our research team and individuals from 60 Decibels who oversee the research. Only information that does not identify you may be shared with other people or organizations.

Retention of your Data: Data collected will be stored in our online servers which is only accessible to the 60 Decibels research team. We will destroy your personal data one year after completion of the project.
